Wittnauer Automatic

This is a 17 jeweled Wittnauer with an automatic calibre circa late 1960’s. The dial is perhaps the most stunning feature of this watch, the applied battens in the shape of a coffin are quite striking. The case is stainless steel and is 34 mm in diameter. It is sinlge piece and the movement is inserteted through the front and this requires a split stem arrangement. I am unable to remove the movement as I don’t have the required tools or skill.

There is a history of cooperation between Longines and Wittnauer but Wittnauer did not use Longines movements.

Wittnauer watches were often supplied with good Swiss movements based on Vertex/ Revue designs and quite likely even their own designs as Wittnauer had a dedicated factory in Switzerland.

They did, however, share case designs and some styling aproaches.
